UNISON has confirmed today that alongside its sister trade unions UCU, Unite and EIS a further meeting will be held with the employers in an attempt to seek to resolve the current dispute over higher education pay. A meeting will be held tomorrow (26 November 2013) at the ACAS Offices in Euston, and all parties have agreed to use ACAS to facilitate the exploratory talks on a resolution.
UNISON has expressed its disappointment that the national HE employers organisation UCEA has provocatively suggested to Universities that they can choose to pay their 1% pay offer “on account” to staff, whilst the current dispute over pay remains unresolved. The employers imposed payment of 1% does not address the increasing costs of living for staff who face rising energy costs and increasing food bills.
Members of all 4 unions are set to take a second day of strike action on 3 December 2013 unless a resolution to the dispute can be reached.
